Ambassador Mohammed Idris

Ambassador of Sudan to the United States

Ambassador Mohammed Idris current Ambassador of Sudan to the United States of America. He formerly served as Ambassador of Sudan to UK from 2019-2021. Before that he was State Minister for Foreign Affairs from March 2018-September 2018. He had held numerous positions within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as Director General – Department of African Affairs (2017-2018), Director – Department of Peace & Humanitarian Affairs (2008-2010), Director – Ministerial Executive Office (2007-2008).

During his diplomatic career he had represent the League of Arab States (LAS) as Head of the League, Mission in Mogadishu (Somalia) and LAS Secretary General Envoy to Somalia (2010-2017) and as Deputy Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, Sudan Embassy, Cairo, Egypt (2003-2007).

Ambassador Idris participated in a number of Regional and International Conferences and Meetings including the African Union (AU) Meetings and Events as a Member or head of the delegation of the government of the Sudan. He was also a member of the Government of the Sudan (GOS) Delegation to numbers of Peace Talks rounds with the Sudan People’s Liberation movement/Army (SPLM/A) under the auspicious of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), 1999 – 2003.

He obtained his Master of Arts in Peace and Development Studies from Juba University in 2010 and Diploma of International Relations from the University of Khartoum, Sudan in 1995.

Ambassador Idris born in Abu Gubejha, Sudan, he is married with four children. He speaks his native Arabic, and fluent in both English, Hausa and kiswahili.
